PC (Steam and PC Game Pass)

The publisher’s only published answer to PC crashes is a request for your crash dump

Developer acknowledged; fix announced

Fictions has one support article about PC crashes, covering Steam and PC Game Pass, and it does not diagnose anything. It asks players to open a ticket, attach the dump from C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\CrashDumps, and suggests trying a BIOS update, linking seven motherboard and laptop vendors. Read as what it is, that is informative in two directions. It is the only first-party escalation route that exists for a crash on this game — no other page on this site could tell a reader where the dump file lives — and it is first-party confirmation that the cause has not been established, because a studio that knew the cause would not be collecting dumps. It is filed here rather than under official fixes because nothing in it fixes anything.

Current workaround status

Send the dump. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\CrashDumps, attached to a ticket at support.fictions.com — that is the route the publisher asks for and it is the only one that feeds a fix. The BIOS suggestion is theirs and is reproduced without endorsement: no mechanism is stated, it is the most invasive thing on the page, and a BIOS update is not a step to take casually on a machine that only misbehaves in one game. Exhaust the driver, upscaler and verify-files steps on our PC fixes page first.

PC (DirectX 12)

Freezes or black-screens at the Fictions logo with no error

Community watch

The game reaches the Fictions logo and stops there. There is no error dialogue and no crash report, and in some accounts no window ever appears. Player Zer01 reported it on 3 August at 7:33pm and Andriod reported a DirectX 12 launch that failed outright; both got past it by forcing DirectX 11, which is what makes this one of the few entries here with a fix behind it rather than a guess.

Current workaround status

Add -dx11 to the game’s Steam launch options, through Properties on the library entry. Two players reported it working independently, which is the strongest workaround evidence on this page. It forces the older renderer; nobody has published what that costs in performance or image quality, so treat the trade as unmeasured.

PC (Windows)

CreateProcess() return 11c7, with Smart App Control blocking the executable

Needs verification

A launch failure reporting CreateProcess() return 11c7, which the reporter traced to Windows Smart App Control refusing to run a self-signed executable. That diagnosis is the reporter’s reading of their own machine, not a developer statement, and no second player has confirmed it. The date is approximate: the post was still rendering with a relative timestamp when the thread was read on 2026-08-05.

Current workaround status

No fix has been posted. This page will not tell you to switch off a Windows security feature to launch a game; if the self-signed executable is the cause, that is a signing problem for the publisher to fix and turning off Smart App Control lowers your machine’s protection for every other program on it.

Steam Deck and Linux

Black screen on Steam Deck and on Linux

Needs verification

Reports of a black screen instead of the game on Steam Deck and on desktop Linux, with reporters pointing at the compatibility badge the store displays. Whether the Deck and the desktop Proton cases are the same fault has not been established by anyone, and there has been no developer reply to either. The date is approximate; the posts carried relative timestamps when the thread was read on 2026-08-05.

Current workaround status

No working fix has been posted. The -dx11 launch option that clears the Windows startup freeze has not been reported as tried here, let alone as working, so do not assume it carries across.

Turning the Foreman wheel opens a hatch that never opens again

Community watch

Turning the wheel on the way to the Foreman opens a hatch down into the subcity. Leave the area before going through it and the hatch is shut when you return, with the wheel now permanently non-interactive. Two players reported being hard-blocked, neither has posted a way past it, and there has been no developer reply. The date is approximate: the posts were rendering with relative timestamps when the thread was read on 2026-08-05.

Current workaround status

None published, by the developer or by anyone else. No reload procedure, no earlier-save route and no confirmation that the run is recoverable has been posted, and no guide site covers it. The honest position is that two players are stopped here and nobody knows whether they can continue.

Autosave written inside a boss arena that appears to require Entanglement Overdrive

Needs verification

One report describes being autosaved inside a boss arena where the fight appears to need the Entanglement Overdrive skill, with no route back out. It has no replies. Nobody has confirmed or refuted whether the arena can be left, whether the boss is genuinely gated on that skill, or whether the autosave is recoverable, so "softlock" here is the reporter’s word and not a verdict. The skill name is the solid part: a player typed "Entanglement Overdrive" out in full in the same megathread, which is what lifts it above a machine caption reading it as "Enhancement". The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

None published, and whether one is even possible is itself unanswered. This is one of the gaps this site publishes as a gap rather than filling with a guess.

The prologue’s second enemy does not spawn

Needs verification

A report from the prologue that the second enemy never appears, leaving the sequence unable to advance. One reporter, no replies, no developer response, and nobody has said whether reloading clears it. The date is approximate — the post was rendering with a relative timestamp when the thread was read on 2026-08-05. Possibly related and deliberately not merged: v1.0.8 fixed “an issue with the cloud streaming version of the game where delayed enemy spawns could block game progression”. That is the same shape, on a platform this report does not name, so it is recorded as an adjacent fix rather than as this one being resolved.

Current workaround status

None posted.

Infinite black screen after the Rangifer fight

Needs verification

A report that the screen goes black after the Rangifer boss fight and stays black, with no crash and no return to gameplay. No replies and no developer response. The boss name is written-source only: it comes from creator video titles and from both established wikis, and has never been read off the game client, so it is the spelling everyone publishes rather than a confirmed in-game string. The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

None posted. Nobody has reported whether the save survives it.

Save data is not recognised after a sudden shutdown

Community watch

After an unexpected power loss or hard shutdown, the game no longer recognises existing save data. A developer replied to the original report without offering a solution, and later reposted a community explanation that the game stores save metadata separately from the save itself: if the metadata is missing, the save may not appear in the load menu even if the save file exists. That repost is useful evidence about the failure shape, not a published recovery procedure.

Current workaround status

None. No official recovery procedure has been published. The newest developer-reposted note says missing metadata can hide an otherwise present save from the load menu, but it does not give file paths, a supported repair flow or a way to recover a corrupted save, so this page will not turn it into instructions.

Hard crash to desktop with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Needs verification

The game closes to desktop with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error. The report in the megathread carries no reproduction steps and no developer reply, and no second reporter was recorded when the thread was read, so this is an open report rather than an established pattern. The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

None posted.

Crashes during cutscenes, with two irreconcilable reported causes

Community watch

Players report the game crashing during cutscenes. The cause is contested and this record does not pick a side: one reporter says disabling DLSS and upscaling stopped it, while another on an RTX 5080 still crashes at minimum settings with DLSS off. Both accounts cannot describe the same fault. No cause has been established by anyone and there has been no developer reply to either post. The date is approximate — page 6 of the thread was rendering these posts relatively on 2026-08-05.

Current workaround status

No established fix, and as of 2026-08-10 that is no longer only our reading: the publisher’s own crash article asks players to send crash dumps, which is what collecting evidence looks like rather than what publishing a cause looks like. Turning DLSS and upscaling off is worth ten minutes because one reporter says it worked for them, but a second reporter had already ruled it out on their own hardware. That is a thing to try, not a fix, and this page will not print it as one. If it crashes reproducibly, the dump is worth more than another settings permutation — see the official-route record above.

PC (reported on Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon 7800 XT)

UE5 crashes and driver timeouts reported on Radeon 9070 XT and 7800 XT systems

Developer acknowledged; fix announced

Two players in the pinned Game Freak message thread describe repeated Unreal Engine crashes on AMD cards: one names a Radeon RX 9070 XT with driver timeout errors, and another names a Radeon 7800 XT with crashes regardless of graphics settings. Sam [developer] replied that the team is trying to figure out what is happening with 9070 XT users, and separately that crash bugs are being reported back to the team for investigation and fixes. That is an acknowledgement of the crash class, not a published cause and not a fix.

Current workaround status

None published. The useful action is to report hardware, OS, driver version and the crash text in the official bug thread or support form; no settings change has been confirmed to stop this crash class.

Acknowledged and under investigation. Sam says crash bugs are being reported back to the team for investigation and fixes, but no patch note, version number or timing has been published.

Parry, dodge and heal inputs register late or not at all

Community watch

Players describe two versions of the same failure shape: parries and dodges registering late or being dropped, heals not firing after repeated presses, and roughly a second between a run input and the character running. The newest corroboration is ContinuumX’s healing report, which ties the symptom to animation lock after aiming, skills, Blade Arts and assassinations; Wildchants and Valegor report the same shape on heal, parry and dodge. Sam [developer] later reposted ContinuumX’s report into the pinned bug megathread, which confirms the report is being tracked. It does not settle whether this is input being dropped, input intentionally refused by game state, or a mixture of both.

Current workaround status

None posted, and nobody has reported a settings change or a frame-rate cap that affects it. One player’s explanation is that healing will not start while downed, staggered, attacking or being hit, but that is a reading of the current behaviour rather than a fix.

A perfect block gives no visual confirmation

Needs verification

A report that landing a perfect block produces no on-screen feedback, leaving a player unable to tell a successful parry from an ordinary guard except by the damage they took. The reporter files it as a bug; whether it is a bug or the intended presentation has not been established by anyone, and no developer has replied. The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

None posted.

PC (controllers)

On-screen prompts show the wrong controller’s button glyphs

Community watch

Prompts display glyphs for a controller other than the one connected. Sam [developer] named controller glyphs in the bug thread among the things being looked at, and the 9 August notes then shipped “fixed a bug causing button icon type changes to not be saved correctly” — which is the neighbouring fault, not this one. A setting that would not save is a different bug from a setting that displays the wrong glyph, and this record does not move to fixed on the strength of an adjacent line. The date here is approximate.

Current workaround status

Set the button icon type explicitly in settings and confirm it survives a restart — that half is named as fixed in v1.0.7. If the glyphs are still wrong with the right type selected, this record is still live and worth reporting.

PC (Switch Pro Controller)

Switch Pro Controller face buttons are swapped on Layout C

Needs verification

A report that with a Switch Pro Controller on button layout C the face buttons are mapped the wrong way round. One reporter, no replies, no developer response, and nobody has said whether another layout avoids it. The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

None posted.

PC (DualShock 4 and remapped controllers)

Button configuration resets to Type B, and DualShock 4 rumble does not work

Needs verification

Two controller complaints from the same corner of the megathread: a saved button configuration reverting to Type B, and a DualShock 4 producing no rumble. The 9 August notes speak to the first and say nothing about the second — “fixed a bug causing button icon type changes to not be saved correctly” is a settings-persistence fix in exactly this area, and v1.0.7 also made the “interact” button remappable. Whether the configuration half is the same bug has not been established by anyone: no reporter has come back on 1.0.7, and the notes do not name Type B or DualShock 4. Recorded as two reports that shared a corner of a thread, not as a shared cause, which is why the patch can plausibly close one and not the other.

Current workaround status

Update to v1.0.7 and re-save your button configuration, then restart once and check it held. Nothing published addresses DualShock 4 rumble.

PC

The resolution selector stops at 1080p on 4K, 1440p and ultrawide displays

Community watch

Players on 3840×2160, 2560×1440 and 5120×1440 displays report the in-game resolution list ending at 1920×1080. The developer has acknowledged a resolution-reporting bug, and separately Sam [developer] asserted in the bug thread on 3 August at 7:04pm that 4K settings exist — an assertion players in the same thread say does not match what they can select. No cause and no working fix has been published by anyone, including the developer.

Current workaround status

No working fix has been posted. Changing Windows DPI scaling and disabling fullscreen optimisations both circulate in the thread as suggestions; nobody has reported either one working, so they are recorded here as untested guesses and not repeated as steps to follow.

PC

No native ultrawide support and no field-of-view slider

Developer acknowledged; fix announced

The game does not render natively at ultrawide aspect ratios and ships no field-of-view slider. It is the loudest launch complaint on the Steam forums. The v1.0.7 Steam notes now list “Ultrawide monitor support” for subsequent patches, but not in v1.0.7 itself. No date, scope or aspect-ratio list has been named.

Current workaround status

No official fix exists. Rake_v2’s UE4SS community mod is the only thing anyone has posted that changes the behaviour, and version 1.3.1 of it also fixes the skill-tree interface at ultrawide. A third-party mod is not a fix: it is unsupported, it can break with any patch, and it is named here because players will find it anyway, not because this page recommends installing it.

Planned for a subsequent patch. v1.0.7 shipped camera changes, but official ultrawide support remains future and undated.

The upscaler selection reverts to AMD FSR1 on every restart

Fixed

Select DLSS and the game is back on AMD FSR1 the next time it launches. Frame generation, field of view and film grain are reported as failing to save in the same way. Sam [developer] confirmed the upscaler reversion in the bug thread on 3 August at 8:13pm, then replied in the pinned Game Freak message thread that the team is aware of the DLSS-to-FSR reset and planning to fix it.

Current workaround status

Update to PC v1.0.7. Before that patch, re-select the upscaler after every launch and check it before a long session.

Fixed in the official PC v1.0.7 notes: “Fixed a bug causing upscaling settings to reset upon restarting the game.”

PC

V-Sync cannot be enabled while DLSS is on

Needs verification

A report that the V-Sync option is unavailable when DLSS is selected. Whether that is a bug or a deliberate restriction has still not been stated. v1.0.7 does carry a V-Sync fix — “changing V-Sync settings will no longer impact the player’s resolution settings” — and that is a different fault: one is a setting that cannot be reached, the other is a setting that reached too far. The reason to re-test anyway is that the second half of this record has genuinely changed. It used to say the upscaler resets on every launch so the setting this interacts with does not hold either; the notes name that reset as fixed, so the interaction can now be tested cleanly for the first time.

Current workaround status

None posted. On v1.0.7 the upscaler selection survives a restart, so pick DLSS, restart, and check whether V-Sync is selectable — that test was not reliable before this patch.

Stutter while traversing and during shader compilation, with the CPU at 100%

Needs verification

Reports of hitching while moving through the world and during shader compilation, with the CPU reported pegged at 100% while it happens. Part of this is expected work: BenchmarKing’s settings testing documents a shader compilation step on first launch, so a first session that stutters and then settles is the build behaving as designed. The traversal stutter and the pegged CPU are the parts nobody has verified, explained or replied to. The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

None posted. Letting the first-launch shader compilation finish before playing is ordinary practice for an Unreal title and is not a fix for stutter that continues after it.

Xbox Series X

Framerate drops in performance mode on Xbox Series X

Community watch

Framerate drops in the Xbox Series X performance mode, acknowledged by the developer. This record said until 2026-08-10 that no Xbox build number had been published to check against; that was wrong. The publisher’s support centre gives Xbox Series as 1.0.7.0, so the 9 August patch did reach the console and there is a number to compare with. What still does not exist is an Xbox-specific note: nothing in the changelog is addressed to console performance, and no reporter has retested this on 1.0.7.0. The date is approximate — the report carried a relative timestamp when it was read on 2026-08-05.

Current workaround status

None posted. Check Settings after updating: the patch moved the default cutscene mode to Performance, which is a different setting from the console performance mode this record is about.

Ray tracing changes nothing visible, and removes some reflections

Community watch

Players report seeing no difference with ray tracing enabled, and in places fewer reflections than with it off. This is the one entry here with independent measurement behind it: BenchmarKing measured the setting at a 2% cost in a quiet scene and up to 7% elsewhere for a difference it describes as barely visible, and found that in places it disables screen-space reflections without replacing them. Whether that is a bug or simply the state of the implementation has not been established, so it sits on the watch list rather than being called either. The date is approximate.

Current workaround status

Turn ray tracing off. That is a settings recommendation rather than a bug fix: on the measured evidence it returns 2 to 7% of your frame rate and costs nothing a player can see.

Interface text is too small to read and subtitles do not appear

Developer acknowledged; fix announced

Players report interface text that is unreadable at their display size and subtitles that never show. PC v1.0.7 adjusted text size throughout the game with no control over it; v1.0.8 added the control — subtitle size at five steps from Extra Small to Extra Large, though gameplay subtitles outside cutscenes stay at Medium above that. Neither note addresses the missing-subtitles half of this record, and a fix for text appearing unintentionally scaled down elsewhere is still only on the forward list.

Current workaround status

Update to 1.0.8.0 and set the subtitle size in the options menu. No official workaround for missing subtitles has been posted.

Text size adjusted in PC v1.0.7; subtitle size options added in v1.0.8. Missing subtitles are named in neither note.

All platforms — the 5 August statement named none; the 9 August shipped note is PC-specific

Camera behaviour, acknowledged by the developer before this site had a record for it

Fixed

This record is unusual and worth reading as much for how it got here as for what it says: the developer named it before we did. GAME FREAK listed "camera adjustments" first among the changes in its 5 August patch statement, and press coverage of that statement — GameSpot's headline calls the cameras broken — treats camera complaints as one of the launch's two most common. What no source we hold provides is the specific fault: nothing states whether the problem is the lock-on, the collision behaviour in tight spaces, the sensitivity range, or something else. So the record names what the developer named and stops there.

Current workaround status

Update to 1.0.8.0 and set the camera distance in the options menu. No distance or field-of-view value is published for any of the three presets, and boss-camera work is still on the forward list.

Shipped in PC v1.0.7 as “various adjustments to the player camera, both in and out of combat,” then again in v1.0.8, which added Close/Medium/Far distance presets, further in- and out-of-combat adjustments and changes to cinematic camera cuts. Boss camera adjustments remain planned.

The Equipment screen shows a low-quality character model

Needs verification

A report that the character model rendered on the Equipment screen is visibly lower quality than the one in gameplay. Cosmetic, one reporter, no replies. It is recorded because a player who notices it should know somebody else has seen it too and that no settings change has been reported to affect it. The date is approximate.

Floor clipping near the bunker, transparent rock textures, inverted skill-tree cursor

Needs verification

Three world and interface glitches reported separately in the megathread: falling through the floor near the bunker, rock textures rendering transparent, and the skill-tree cursor moving inverted. They are grouped in one record because each is a single unreplied report, not because a shared cause has been established. The bunker location is the reporter’s wording and has not been checked against a map. The dates are approximate.

Current workaround status

None posted for any of the three. The v1.0.8 forward list names adjustments to invisible walls and collision boundaries for a later patch, which is the nearest thing to an acknowledgement any of these have — it names no location and does not mention the skill-tree cursor or the rock textures.

Pre-order Deluxe DLC entitlement did not appear in the Steam library

Fixed

Sam announced that Valve added the missing entitlement to the pre-order Deluxe package, covering players who bought on Steam or through a key site. The published follow-up is to restart Steam if the entitlement does not appear immediately, then report persistence. The notice fixes the entitlement grant; it does not change the in-game claim path through Special Content once the entitlement exists.

Wildchants and Valegor report the same shape on heal, parry and dodge. DmonHiro supplies the only mechanical explanation anyone offers — that healing will not start while downed, staggered, attacking or being hit. Sam [developer] later reposted ContinuumX's report into the pinned bug megathread, which confirms that the issue is being tracked, but no cause or fix has been published. The distinction between "input dropped" and "input refused by game state" is unresolved and both readings are live.
  • Steam Community — bug reports thread, page 13Community with developer reposts, fetched 2026-08-07 — the newest page of the official bug megathread carries fresh reports on DLSS/Vsync resets, startup freezes, growth-chamber seedling selection, ray-tracing toggles, aerial skills not firing, and the first Nushi arena remaining sealed. Sam [developer] asks one startup-freeze reporter for hardware/OS details and separately reposts ContinuumX's healing/animation-lock report from another thread into the official bug megathread. These are acknowledgements that reports are being tracked, not fixes or confirmed causes.
  • Fictions support centre — Patch Notes: v1.0.7 / v1.005.000 (article 54231342026771)Official, and the single most useful thing about it is its title: the publisher files the PC and PlayStation builds as one patch under one set of notes. The body is the same fourteen items as the Steam post, so nothing in the list is new — what is new is that the notes are not PC-only, which the Steam post’s own "PC Patch Notes" heading had left open. Read 2026-08-10, and superseded on 15 August by the v1.0.8 / v1.006.000 article in the same support section.
  • Steam Community — ultrawide and field-of-view supportCommunity, fetched 2026-08-05 — the second source for ultrawide being unsupported with no FOV slider, and for Rake_v2's UE4SS community mod being the only workaround anyone has posted (v1.3.1 fixes the skill-tree UI). A community mod is not a fix and must not be presented as one.
  • Steam Announcement — FIXED: Pre-Order DLC Entitlement IssueOfficial, published 2026-08-05 and read 2026-08-06 — Sam states that Valve added the missing entitlement to the pre-order Deluxe package, covering purchases on Steam and via key sites; affected players should restart Steam if it does not appear immediately and report persistence. The wording is about the pre-order Deluxe package, so do not broaden it to every possible entitlement case.
  • Steam Community — bug reports thread, page 4Community with a developer reply, fetched 2026-08-05 — Sam [developer] (Aug 3 @ 8:13pm) confirms that the upscaler selection reverts to AMD FSR1 on every restart. A later official thread says the team is aware and planning to fix the DLSS-to-FSR reset; no fix has shipped yet.
  • BenchmarKing — Optimization Guide: Every Setting TestedHands-on measurement, uploaded 2026-08-04 — per-setting performance costs measured individually at 05:00–08:30, including the finding that ray tracing costs 2–7% for a barely visible difference and in places disables screen-space reflections without replacing them.
  • Fictions support centre — What is the current game version? (article 54049725653139)Official, per-platform, and maintained: Xbox Series 1.0.8.0, PS5 1.006.000, Steam 1.0.8.0 when read on 2026-08-18, against 1.0.7.0/1.005.000/1.0.7.0 on 2026-08-10. It is the only first-party page that states an Xbox build number at all, and it is edited in place with no history, so a citation of it is a citation of a date. The publisher’s own headline misspells "Reincaration"; the URL carries the typo too, so do not correct it when linking.
  • GAME FREAK official account on X — first post-launch patch statementOfficial, posted 2026-08-05 in Japanese. The developer says it is taking feedback to heart and plans continuous updates, and lists the next patch — targeted within a week — as camera adjustments, larger text, story pacing improvements (with further adjustment planned), a default graphics setting changed from Cinematic to Performance, and other bug fixes, all "subject to change". Read here through two independent English reports rather than translated by us; X serves nothing useful to automated fetching.
  • Noisy Pixel — Game Freak's post-launch update roadmapPress, 2026-08-05 — reports the GAME FREAK X statement in English and lists all five items: camera adjustments, increased text size, story pacing improvements with ongoing adjustment planned, changing the default setting from Cinematic to Performance mode, and other bug fixes. Carries the developer's own caveat that "the contents of this patch are subject to change" and notes the feedback route at support.fictions.com.
  • Game Informer — Game Freak planning a series of continuous updatesPress, 2026-08-05 — an independent second English read of the same X post, quoting "We take your feedback to heart and are planning a series of continuous updates" and listing the identical five items, the one-week target and the same subject-to-change caveat. Cited alongside Noisy Pixel so no single outlet's translation stands alone.
  • Steam Community — missing pre-order entitlementCommunity with a developer reply, fetched 2026-08-05 — before the Steam announcement below, Sam [developer] directed affected players to open a support ticket with proof of purchase, while one player reported the content simply appeared after a game restart. Kept for the launch record; the official Steam announcement is now the primary fix source.
