The answer changed again in v1.0.12: almost all cutscenes can now be skipped
This page used to answer “not yet” from v1.0.8, then “partly” from v1.0.11. The 17 September v1.0.12 notes move the feature much closer to finished: “Almost all event scenes and cutscenes are now skippable,” skippable cutscenes now show a Skip indicator, and finishing animations can be skipped too. The current answer is yes for almost everything, with a small official caveat below.
What is still not finished
The same v1.0.12 note keeps the limit visible: “a very small number of cutscenes remain unskippable for now,” and those are promised for a future update without a date or version number. The notes do not list which scenes those are, and this page does not invent that list. Treat the answer as “mostly solved,” not “every scene in every build is confirmed.”
What was actually tried
This is worth stating precisely, because "you cannot skip cutscenes" is the kind of claim that gets repeated from one article to the next without anyone saying what they pressed. Daniel Owen ran the game's opening twice on two different PCs while benchmarking it, and on the second pass went looking for a skip. He also, later in the same video, abandoned a test pass rather than sit through the opening again — a tester breaking his own methodology over it is worth as much as the button test.
- Every button on the controller, including the face buttons, tried during a cutscene.
- Escape and space bar on the keyboard, plus what he describes as "all sorts of buttons".
- Start, which opens a menu rather than skipping — the machine captions garble which menu, so we do not name it here.
- A second pass through the same cutscenes later in the video, reaching the same result.
Why the old opening test still matters
Daniel Owen’s opening-hour test no longer proves the current build cannot skip anything, because v1.0.11 and then v1.0.12 changed that. It still matters as a scope marker: the only documented button hunt was on PC in the opening, before the publisher added the staged skip rollout. If you are comparing old videos, reviews or mod pages against the current patch, date them. Anything captured before 17 September is evidence for why the feature was needed, not for what the current build does.
What it means for a replay
Take it seriously if you were planning to run the game more than once, but the risk is now narrower. v1.0.12 says almost all event scenes and cutscenes are skippable and previously viewed Tips no longer display from New Game+ onwards. The remaining replay risk is the unnamed “very small number” of unskippable scenes and the fact that the Steam note still does not print console build numbers.
On PC, two mods do part of the job — and neither is the clean skip you want
This is the only route anyone has, and it is worth being exact about what it costs, because both of these are filed under names that promise more than they deliver. Nothing below has been installed by this site; the figures are the catalogue reading, and the caveats are read off the mod titles themselves.
- Cutscene Fast Forward — Enemy HP 5x, 708 downloads, the most-downloaded answer to this question on Nexus. Read the second half of that name: the author has bundled a fast-forward with a five-times enemy health multiplier, so installing it to save time on story scenes also rebuilds every fight in the game. It is one file and there is no published way to take half of it.
- No-Intro (Skip Startup — Splash Videos), 603 downloads. This one is clean and it is not what you are asking about — it removes the logo videos before the main menu, not story cutscenes.
- Both need a loader, and this game has three mutually exclusive ones. Which loader you already have decides whether either of these is even installable.
